Titans of Chicago Music Talk “Changes”

Jovan Landry and D2G are two of my favorite emcees I’ve had the pleasure of following since we collaborated on Project Soul (2013-2014) at Columbia College Chicago.
“Changes are hard, sometimes its never easy, relax your mind, its time to take a vacay, its for the better its not the end of world, so open your eyes and let your future unfurl!” The hook immediately puts you in a more hopeful state of mind, the way they flow over the instrumental makes you think of times you have already experienced, and how you got through those changes, with grace. D2G and Jovan Landry make a dope duo and they complement each other well on the record.
Produced by Abstrak Music, the high pitched vocal sample in the background of the song meshes nicely with their vocals.
“Its a part of life, that's similar to all the seasons, they all come and go, or either stay for a reason” raps Jovan. Comparing how your life will go through seasons of change is a strong fitting concept for the song. Makes you think about how to try to mitigate as much change as possible, since change is the only constant, this record helps me understand why we’re always aiming to build stability, whether that's in work, relationships, community, art, society, etc.
“And from where I seem to stand, its always evolution, even in moments your focus is low in resolution, cause we aware when your vision’s impaired, thats when the wisdom is there” raps D2G. I enjoy this line for connecting your dreams and vision to a camera, when you have low resolution your image will come out blurry, much like your own vision of the future, its never clear or easy to see, but with faith and wisdom you can make it through these times of change.
Lyrically; D2G and Jovan Landry are as sharp or sharper than they ever have been! “Changes” is a fun thought provoking record that deserves more shine!
